Ponta da Piedade is a stunning headland in the south of Lagos, surrounded by craggy rock formations created by the sea over thousands of years. The coast is punctuated with picturesque caves, magical towers of coloured sandstone, tunnels and grottoes, which can be best seen by boat.
From Ponta da Piedade the views of crystal clear blue water and the Algarve coastline are exceptional. The cliffs are a magnet for walkers and from January onwards there’s a spectacular display of Mediterranean vegetation.
A lighthouse that has stood guard here for centuries crowns the promontory, a suitably romantic location for an unforgettable sunset.
